How to renew your car registration (Istimara) in Saudi Arabia — Absher process, Fahas inspection, fees, and fines for expired registration.

What Is the Istimara?

The Istimara (استمارة السيارة) is Saudi Arabia's vehicle registration card. It must be renewed annually and kept in your vehicle at all times.

How to Renew Online via Absher

  1. Log in to Absher (أبشر)My Services → Vehicle Services → Renew Registration
  2. Select the vehicle to renew
  3. Complete vehicle inspection (Fahas) if prompted
  4. Pay the annual registration fee and insurance
  5. Download the digital Istimara immediately

Vehicle Inspection (Fahas)

Vehicles over 3 years old require a Fahas inspection before renewal. Book at any licensed Fahas centre. The inspection covers safety, emissions, and vehicle identification.

Insurance Requirement

Active vehicle insurance is required. Saudi Arabia requires a minimum of third-party liability (TPL) insurance.

Can I renew without an inspection?
