Types of Health Cards in the UAE

  • DAMAN (HAAD) — Abu Dhabi's mandatory health insurance. Thiqa for UAE nationals, Basic and Enhanced plans for expats.
  • DHA Health Card — Dubai Health Authority card for low-income and vulnerable populations.
  • MOHAP Health Card — Ministry of Health card for residents in northern emirates (Sharjah, RAK, Fujairah, Ajman, UAQ).
  • Employer-provided insurance — Most common for employed expatriates. Your employer manages renewal.

MOHAP Health Card Renewal

  1. Visit the MOHAP website (mohap.gov.ae) or any MOHAP health centre
  2. Bring your Emirates ID and passport
  3. Pay the annual health card fee
  4. Receive new card on the spot or within 3–5 days

Employer-Provided Health Insurance Renewal

If your health insurance is employer-provided, verify annually that:

  • Your health insurance card has not expired
  • You are still enrolled (especially after a job change)
  • Your dependents are covered if applicable
